Labiaplasty is a precise, outpatient procedure — and a comfortable, private experience from start to finish.

Anesthesia & time

It’s performed as an outpatient procedure, typically in one to two hours, under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia — whichever keeps you most comfortable. You go home the same day.

The technique

Using the approach that fits your anatomy — trim, wedge, or an outer (labia majora) reduction — Dr. Austin removes excess tissue and refines the shape for a natural, balanced result. Fine, dissolvable sutures are used, so nothing needs to be removed later.

Week by week

  • Days 1–3: swelling and soreness, well managed with medication, ice, and loose clothing.
  • Days 3–7: many return to desk work; you’ll keep things loose and gentle.
  • Weeks 2–4: swelling steadily settles; light activity resumes on Dr. Austin’s guidance.
  • Weeks 4–6: most resume exercise, intimacy, and tampon use once cleared.
  • Months 2–3: residual swelling fully resolves and your final result settles in.

Labiaplasty is for adult women in good general health who are bothered by the size, shape, or symmetry of the labia — whether for comfort, function, or appearance. Good candidates are non-smokers, aren’t pregnant, and have realistic expectations. Many come after childbirth or with the natural changes of age. If you’re finished having children, that’s often a sensible time, though it isn’t a requirement.

Is there a non-surgical option?

You may see “non-surgical labiaplasty” advertised — energy-based treatments that tighten tissue modestly. They don’t remove excess tissue, so for true reduction of the labia, surgery is what delivers a real, lasting change. Dr. Austin will tell you honestly which is appropriate for you.
