Body Lift in Augusta, GA

After significant weight loss, a body lift can trim away excess loose skin, while toning and tightening the entire torso. At Southeastern Aesthetic Surgery, led by our skilled surgeons include board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Troy Austin, cosmetic procedures such as body lifts are performed for residents of Augusta, Evans, Columbia County, and nearby areas in Georgia. We are also happy to provide our services to residents of Aiken and the neighboring communities in South Carolina.

What is the goal of a Body Lift?

A body lift is usually performed after a person undergoes extreme weight loss to eliminate folds of sagging skin that are often left behind around the torso. The body lift may also be combined with other procedures, such as liposuction, an arm lift, thigh lift and/or breast enhancement, in order to achieve a more comprehensive aesthetic rejuvenation.

What conditions can be improved by a Body Lift?

After significant weight loss, hanging folds of skin usually remain around the torso that may also cause physical discomfort. In some patients, the skin may be stretched to the point where it simply cannot tighten itself around a slimmer body. In these cases, a body lift may be required in order to achieve tone and definition. A body lift achieves the following improvements:

  • Flattens and tightens the tummy
  • Re-sculpts a slimmer waistline
  • Lifts and tightens the buttocks
  • Trims away sagging skin from the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks
  • Eliminates scars, imperfections, and cellulite
  • Alleviates chafing and irritation caused by hanging folds of skin around the torso
  • Creates a more toned and defined body contour
  • Boosts self-esteem and body image

Who is a suitable candidate for a Body Lift?

A body lift is ideal for adult individuals who have undergone massive weight loss and now seek to tighten and tone the lower abdomen, groin, waist, thighs, and buttocks. This procedure is often performed on patients who were once obese and have achieved ideal weight either through natural means or through surgery, and have loose hanging folds of skin to eliminate. An initial consultation with Dr. Austin can help you determine if a body lift may be right for you.

How is the Body Lift performed?

A body lift is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia and requires an incision that encircles the body, through which excess skin and clumps of fat may be extracted from the abdomen, lower back, and hips. The band of loose sagging skin around the midsection is pulled and tightened, and excess skin is trimmed away. Dr. Austin camouflage the incision within the bikini area to lessen its visibility. Liposuction may be performed to extract fatty tissue from specific problem areas and further streamline the body contour. A body lift may also be combined with other procedures, such as breast enhancement, for a more comprehensive makeover.

How does a Body Lift differ from Liposuction?

While the body lift produces significant, dramatic results, liposuction is a far less invasive, non-surgical procedure that uses a vacuum extraction system to remove fatty deposits, but it does not tighten muscle tissue, trim away sagging skin, or eliminate scars, stretch marks, and cellulite. A body lift tightens the skin and muscles while trimming away excess skin, eliminating any scars, stretch marks and cellulite that might appear on that skin. In many cases, liposuction is used to complement a body lift and achieve more definition and contour.

What about recovery after a Body Lift?

You will need to have someone drive you home after the procedure and provide basic home care for a few days while you recover. Immediately after the surgery, you will be instructed to wear a compressive garment for several weeks to support sensitive tissue, reduce swelling and discomfort, and optimize the results of your procedure by helping your body adjust to its new shape. We recommend a period of complete rest for about a week, after which you may resume light, non-strenuous activities. You may gradually return to your normal activities, including sex, after a period of about six weeks. Our staff will closely monitor your recovery process and answer any questions you may have during this period.

Body Lift FAQs

What does a full-body lift include?

A full-body lift is a surgical cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin from the upper and lower portions of the body. While a lower body lift may only include the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen, a full-body lift may also include the arms, chest, and back. Dr. Troy Austin may recommend a full-body lift to patients who have undergone extreme weight loss and are unhappy with the loose skin they have left around their bodies.

How painful is a body lift?

A body lift includes removing excess skin from multiple areas of the body and tightening the remaining skin to reveal the body’s new natural contours. Following surgery, patients typically experience swelling, bruising, and tenderness around their treated areas for several weeks. That being said, patients generally make a full recovery from their body lift procedure within six to eight weeks of their treatment.

How long does a full-body lift take?

Your body lift may take anywhere between four and seven hours to complete depending on the size of the treatment area and the extent of treatment needed to achieve your desired results. Dr. Troy Austin will be happy to go over the details of your procedure including the amount of time your procedure will take and your potential recovery period during the time of your private consultation.

Will insurance cover a body lift?

While most plastic and cosmetic surgery are not covered by insurance, a body lift following weight loss through bariatric surgery may be partially covered. The best way to find out if your insurance plan covers a body lift procedure is to contact your insurance provider for more details. For your convenience, Dr. Troy Austin and his team are also happy to offer flexible financing options that allow you to more easily pay for your procedure at your own pace.

How much weight do you lose with a lower body lift?

While you will lose weight following your body lift because of the extra skin that is removed during surgery, the body lift procedure should not be considered a weight-loss treatment. Instead, we like our patients to view this skin removal surgery as the final portion of their weight loss journey as it allows our patients to better see the new contours and curves they've created by losing excess weight in a healthy way.

After doing the difficult work of massive weight loss, a body lift can tone and contour your body so you can fully enjoy your new appearance.
