What is the goal of Lip Injections?
Lip injections come in a variety of formulas designed to create fuller, plumper, more defined lips, while also removing fine vertical lines around the lips and mouth.
How can Lip Injections improve my facial appearance?
If you have thin lips surrounded by vertical lines and creases and your lipstick won’t stay inside your lip outline, chances are, your face looks older than you feel because of this. Lip injections provide subtle improvements that make your lips look smoother and fuller, enhancing your entire facial appearance. Lip injections define the natural outline of your lips and eliminate annoying lines and creases around the lip line. Lip injections provide natural looking results that may last for months, with no downtime.
Who should consider Lip Injections?
Lip injections may be suitable for most adults who are in good general health, although individuals who have health conditions that affect the mouth and lips, such as oral herpes, may be advised to forego these injections. Also, note that lip injections are designed to create a subtle improvement and do not produce a significant change for people looking to dramatically rejuvenate their facial appearance. Many of our patients choose to combine lip injections with cosmetic surgery or another medical spa treatments to achieve a more comprehensive makeover.
How Do Lip Injections Work?
Lip injections typically contain dermal filler gels such as Juvederm®, Restylane Silk®, or Volbella®. These formulas are injected directly into the lips to add volume to the skin cells in the treatment area, making the lips more full and defined, which naturally eliminates thin, vertical lines around the lip line. Some formulations use hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance that attracts moisture to the skin and increases skin hydration, further increasing lip volume over time, while others stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen, a structural element that strengthens skin cells at the cellular level. After treatment, you will see continued improvements for a period of several weeks.
Is there any downtime after Lip Injections?
There is no downtime after lip injections, and patients return to normal activity right away. You may experience minor swelling or bruising for one to two days, but applying an ice pack for 20 minutes normally alleviates this. For the first 24 hours after treatment, we recommend you avoid touching or biting your lips, as well as kissing. Results will be immediately noticeable following lip injections, with additional improvements continuing over several weeks.
If you want to make your lips more voluptuous, consider lip injections to augment volume and fullness. Dr. Troy Austin, a board-certified plastic surgeon, and Dr. Matthew Isakson, plastic surgeon at Southeastern Aesthetic Surgery, provide lip injections and other cosmetic treatments for residents of Augusta, Evans, and Columbia County, and adjoining communities in Georgia and South Carolina.
