How can Fat Transfer Injections improve my appearance?

Imagine if you could just move fat from areas such as love handles and inner thighs to areas such as the breasts, neck, or cheekbones to enhance volume and fullness! That’s basically what fat transfer injections do. Fat transfer injection, known medically as microlipoinjection, transfers fat from problem areas in your body to areas where you desire to enhance fullness and volume.

What are the advantages of Fat Transfer Injections?

Fat transfer injections have gained widespread popularity because the procedure is safe and effective, and provides the following advantages over other procedures:

  • The treatment is minimally invasive
  • Provides rejuvenation without plastic surgery
  • Is proven safe and effective because there is no risk of allergic reaction
  • Uses fat from problem areas in your own body to improve contours in other areas
  • The procedure is safe and simple
  • There is no downtime following treatment

How is the Fat transferred from one part of the body to another?

The fat transfer procedure is performed in three steps, and we will administer a sedative or local anesthesia to ensure your maximum comfort throughout the procedure. First, fat is extracted from the harvest site using liposuction. Typically, this fat will be extracted from such areas as the abdomen, buttocks, back, or thighs, slimming and contouring the harvest area. Then, the harvested fat cells are liquefied, isolated, and sterilized. Finally, the liquefied fat cells are injected directly into the target area using a fine-gauge needle, enhancing volume and fullness in that area. Your results will be immediately visible after the injections. Some patients may require a follow-up treatment because, in some patients, the body may absorb some or all of the transplanted fat cells.

Who is a good candidate for Fat Transfer Injections?

Fat transfer injections are suitable for almost any healthy adult who wishes to improve their appearance without plastic surgery. This procedure is ideal for younger adults to enhance facial and body contours, and for older patients who want to deter and reverse the visible signs of aging. Fat transfer injections are also ideal for patients who want to eliminate fat from problem areas while enhancing other areas of the body and face.

How should I prepare for Fat Transfer Injections?

There is very little risk of any adverse reaction with fat transfer injections because the procedure uses tissue from your own body to enhance and increase volume in desired areas. You won’t have to worry about preparing for the procedure, but please inform Dr. Austin, or Dr. Medina at your intake consultation about any medications you might be taking, such as aspirin and other blood thinners, allergy medications, sleep aids, NSAIDS, or muscle relaxers, and whether you have received any other injections in the past four months. You may have to suspend certain medications in preparation for surgery. If you have any skin infection or irritation, it is best to delay treatment until the condition passes.

Fat Transfer FAQs

How Long Do Fat Transfer Results Last?

The fat transfer is a popular treatment because once results are achieved, they can last for a lifetime. Since the results are created using natural fat, they do not fade away like dermal filler treatments. You may notice small changes in your results as you age or experience changes in weight, but they will be otherwise permanent.

How Much Fat Do You Need to Do a Fat Transfer?

The amount of fat needed for a fat transfer will depend on the treatment area. For example, the BBL or Brazilian butt lift treatment, requires substantially more fat than a fat transfer to the face. We must also consider your desired results, as each patient has different treatment goals. We can help you determine if you are a good candidate for the fat transfer during your consultation.

How Much Does a Fat Transfer Cost?

The cost of a fat transfer procedure will depend on several factors, including your treatment area, your desired results, and the amount of fat required to deliver those results. If you are combining your treatment with another procedure, that will also be considered. At Southeastern Aesthetic Surgery, we are proud to offer financing options so that your fat transfer procedure can be as affordable as possible.

What are the Side Effects of a Fat Transfer?

The side effects of the fat transfer procedure will affect two areas: the donor site where fat is collected, and the recipient site where fat is re-injected. This is unique because you must consider the side effects of the liposuction body contouring where fat is removed, which may include swelling, bruising and soreness. The location where the fat is injected may also experience some bruising or swelling, but typically to a lesser extent.

Is a Fat Transfer Better than Dermal Fillers?

Fat transfers and dermal fillers are fundamentally very different treatments. Fat transfers are ideal for patients who would like to eliminate some fat in addition to enhancing their contours elsewhere. It is also ideal for patients who are looking for long-term results. Dermal fillers may be ideal for patients looking to achieve subtle results, or who are looking to experiment with temporary cosmetic treatments before committing to a long-term alternative.
