Your Brazilian Butt Lift Step by Step

When reading descriptions about a cosmetic surgery online, they can often be short, vague and oversimplified. At Southeastern Aesthetic Surgery, we want to make sure you know exactly what you’re getting into when you book your appointment for your plastic surgery procedure. Today, let’s take a deep dive into what is going to happen when you go in to receive your Brazilian butt lift.

1. Prep and Anesthesia

Before your surgery begins, Dr. Austin will go over what you can expect during your surgical experience one more time to make sure you’re comfortable. He’ll then start to mark your body, outlining where he will make incisions and where the fat will be injected after it is harvested from the donor area. The markings on your body may look a little extreme, but in reality, incisions are only going to be about the length of a grain of rice. Once you’re prepped and ready for your procedure, you’ll be put under general anesthesia by one of our expert anesthesiologists.

2. Incisions are Made at the Harvest Site and Buttocks

After you’re under general anesthesia, it’s time for Dr. Austin to get busy. First, he’ll disinfect your harvest site and the buttocks with an antibacterial soap. Once sterile, Dr. Austin will make those two to three millimeter long incisions at the harvest site. These incisions will make it possible for Dr. Austin to perform liposuction on the donor area.

3. Fat is Harvested from the Donor Area

Through the incision, Dr. Austin will start to perform liposuction on the harvest site. To perform liposuction, Dr. Austin will insert a thin, hollow tube called a cannula into the harvest site area and gently suction out fat cells. Most patients choose their abdomen, love handles or thighs to be their harvest site, as the fat will be removed from these areas to be transferred into the buttocks. After the fat is removed, it’s processed through centrifugation and purified for the injection process.

4. Fat is Transferred to the Buttocks

Once the fat is purified, it’s transferred into syringes to start the injection process. Dr. Austin transfers the fat into the buttocks using a series of microinjections made into the buttocks and the outer hips. The placement of these microinjections ensures an overall perkier buttock with a rounder appearance for the signature peach look that our patients desire. Up to 90 percent of the fat that is originally injected into the buttocks will stay there, but like all fat cells, they are subject to weight change and fluctuation.

5. Incisions are Closed and You Recover

When Dr. Austin is done injecting all the fat from the donor area, he will close incisions in the harvest site area with sutures. Following your procedure, you’ll be given a compression garment to decrease bruising and swelling in the treated areas. Dr. Austin recommends avoiding putting pressure on your bottom for 10 to 14 days following surgery to ensure your backside keeps its new shape.
